If it is an existing Moodle activity such as an Assignment, Forum, Quiz, Turnitin Assignment:

  1. From the Administration block select Gradebook setup
  2. Find the grade item in the list and select Edit and then Edit Settings
  3. At the bottom under the Parent Category menu select the checkbox next to Extra Credit
  4. Select Save changes
  5. The points for that grade item will no longer be calculated into the overall course total.

If it is NOT an existing Moodle activity and you need to manually create a column in the gradebook:

  1. From the Administration block select Gradebook setup
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and select Add grade item
  3. Fill in the fields for the Item name and the Maximum grade (how ever much extra credit they could possibly earn)
  4. Select Save changes
  5. Select Continue on the Recalculating grades screen that appears
  6. Find the grade item that you just created and select Edit then Edit Settings
  7. At the bottom under the Parent Category menu select the checkbox next to Extra Credit
  8. Select Save changes
  9. The points for that grade item will no longer be calculated into the overall course total.
