Butler University students, as well as other students attending an educational institution in Marion County, are eligible for a free library card to check out books at IndyPL.  Find details at https://www.indypl.org/get-a-library-card. Students may complete an application at any of  IndyPL's 23 branch locations and must provide a photo ID and proof of residency.

Proof of residency may include:

  • Mail postmarked within the last 30 days
  • Current lease or checkbook with your address
  • Butler University course schedule with address
  • Any official Butler University document with your address

The Indianapolis Public Library location closest to Butler is the College Ave. Branch, 4180 N. College Ave., phone number 317-275-4320.

The main branch, Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair, is accessible via IndyGo bus.  From campus near the Schrott Center, take the southbound Route 18 or 28 bus; ask the driver or search at indygo.net to find the closest stop and how far you'll need to walk.  (Routes can change).
