There may be different reasons why an item's status is listed as unavailable in WorldCat Discovery, but items in Special Collections are listed as unavailable because they are not available for circulation. An example of such a record is featured below.

A record in WorldCat Discovery that shows an unavailable status because the item is in Special Collections, and thus unable to be circulated.

To keep these special items preserved and secure, the Libraries keep them in this restricted area. Though these items can not be checked out, they can be viewed in accordance with Special Collections' Service Guidelines.
