Past issues of the Butler Collegian are available online. The following link leads to a quick guide on how to access and search the Butler Collegian digital collection online: https://libguides.butler.edu/ld.php?content_id=53412437. As well, here’s a direct link to the Butler Collegian digital collection: https://palni.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15846coll11.

The Butler Collegian student newspaper is available at the library. Paper copies of the most recent issues are located in the holder inside the Irwin Library entry doors, opposite the bulletin board, while supplies last. An electronic archive is located at https://palni.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15846coll11, https://www.butler.edu/library/collections/digital-image, and more recent issues are available online.  You will look in different locations depending on what year you are trying to locate.

First published in 1886, The Butler Collegian has served as as the student newspaper of Butler University for more than 100 years. Its archives are available at https://palni.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15846coll11.  The online archive currently covers January 1886-February 1893, and September 1935-April 2005. Current issues may be found at the Collegian website at https://thebutlercollegian.com/

The Collegians are online back to around 1936; Special Collections digitized the microfilm and it worked well.  The earlier microfilm was not of a high enough quality to digitize so those years are available on microfilm.  Special Collections/Archives will keep working on getting those earliest years digitized.

  • Current issues, paper copies:  The most current issues that were delivered are located in the holder inside the front door of Irwin Library.  A browsing copy is located in the newspaper section of Irwin Library.

  • 2001 - present (print copies):  Special Collections and Archives on the third floor of Irwin Library houses paper copies for these years.
