Minoru Yamasaki, one of the best known American architects of the twentieth century, designed the Irwin Library which opened in 1963.  The building was financed by a donation from the Irwin-Miller-Sweeney Foundation of Columbus, Indiana.  Yamasaki was known as a romantic modernist and a gothic influence is often visible in tall narrow arched windows in his buildings, as illustrated by the Irwin Library.  Yamasaki is probably best known for his design of the World Trade Center towers that were destroyed on September 11, 2001.
