Butler University students, as well as other students attending an educational institution in Marion County, are eligible for a free library card to check out books at IndyPL. Students may complete an application at any of  IndyPL's 23 branch locations and must provide a photo ID and proof of residency.

Proof of residency may include:

  • Mail postmarked within the last 30 days
  • Current lease or checkbook with your address
  • Butler University course schedule with address
  • Any official Butler University document with your address

The main branch, Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair, is accessible via IndyGo bus.  From campus near the Schrott Center, take the southbound Route 18 or 28 bus; ask the driver or search at indygo.net to find the closest stop and how far you'll need to walk.  (Routes can change).
