All library users should follow current Butler University and library protocols, including those for equipment.

Butler students are granted the privilege of renting a variety of devices, free of charge, if available, with short-term loan periods. Please visit the Information Commons desk at Irwin Library or the desk at the Science Library to borrow one of these devices.

Note: Butler faculty and staff are asked to contact the Center for Academic Technology for equipment rental (except for College of Education equipment) or IT

Camcorders and Microphones and webcams

The Irwin Library has some standard camcorders, high definition camcorders, wireless microphones, and several tripods available for check-out at the Information Commons desk. We also have some webcams available. The equipment can leave the library and has a 7-day circulation period. Items are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and have no renewals.

iPads

The Irwin Library and the Science Library have a small number of  iPads or iPad minis available for check-out at the Information Commons desk. These devices may leave the library and have a 7-day circulation period. iPads are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and have no renewals.

Loaner Laptops

Irwin Library and the Science Library have a small number of HP laptops and Apple Macbooks available for checkout to current Butler University students. These are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This equipment can leave the library and has a 7-day circulation period. Loaner Laptops have no renewals and students must wait 24 hours before they will be able to check out another laptop.

Overdues, Lost, or Damaged Equipment

Overdue

Overdue notices will be e-mailed to students several times before an item(s) is declared lost. To ensure a timely return of equipment and to avoid fees for lost materials, students are encouraged to monitor their due-dates via My Library Account. Late fees for reserves, PC & Mac laptops, and iPads are billed at $10 per day per overdue item up to $300. Late fees for all other equipment (headsets a la carte chargers, room keys, etc.) are billed at $10 per overdue item.

Billing

After 30 days, library equipment is declared lost and a bill will be e-mailed to the student and to Student Accounts. Students will have to pay an irreversible replacement cost (ranging from $15—500+). If the bill is greater than $195 a department requested hold will be placed on the student's account and will not be lifted until the bill is settled.

If the library equipment is returned undamaged within 30 days past the due date, then the student will only be required to pay the late fee(s).

Please direct any questions regarding overdue items and billing to circ@butler.edu or contact Head of Public Services Joel Atkinson.
