All library users should follow current Butler University and library protocols.

Through the LibCal system at https://butler.libcal.com/reserveButler students can make online room reservations for up to four hours per person per day, subject to availability.

Irwin library has group and individual study rooms plus two collaborative work stations for use by current Butler University students. Any rooms not checked out within 15 minutes of the reservation time are subject to cancellation at the library's discretion.

Thirteen study rooms can be reserved in advance for both group (026, 215, 226, 230, 238, 306) and individual (003, 028, 204, 206, 216, 228, 318) study.

  • Reservations are available in hour increments with a limit of 4 hours per person for any study room or combination* of study rooms per day; reservations longer than 4 hours will be canceled by Library Staff. (*=Students may not reserve one room for four hours in the morning, then another for the afternoon.)
  • If a room is not reserved at least two hours in advance, we cannot guarantee its availability.

Here is is a list of what what is available in each room:

Study rooms at the Science Library also can be reserved via the libcal system.

If the LibCal system at https://butler.libcal.com/reserve  indicates study rooms aren't available at your desired time, students may want to try to book a classroom using Butler's EMS system.  Students are also welcome to use open spaces in the library but will need to be cognizant of not disturbing others around them if they need to speak or interact virtually and should wear headphones/earbuds to listen. A limited number of headphones are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Information Commons Desk for in-library use. The talkbox booths on 1 and 3 are sound-treated spaces for individuals making private phone calls.
