Scanning an entire book and redistributing the copies to your class would violate the Fair Use Provisions to U.S. Copyright Law.  Legal amounts are as follows:

  • 5% of the total work if in-print
  • 10% of the total work if out-of-print

You could write the publisher and ask for permission to scan the entire book. Also, the library could attempt to purchase a copy and then you could place it on print reserve.
