Fair use is an exception to the Copyright Act.

"The fair use exception permits the reproduction of a portion of a copyrighted work without the copyright owner's permission, under certain circumstances."

For further information on what these circumstances are (they get quite in-depth), please see this link to the library's Copyright LibGuide.  Questions? Contact Scholarly Communication Librarian Jennifer Coronado,, at 317-940-9549 or Josh Petrusa, Irwin Library, or 317-940-9236
