Databases are available in the Databases A to Z listing on the Library websiteAlmost all of our databases are accessible from off campus, after signing in with your Butler credentials. Authentication is required to make sure you are a user affiliated with Butler, and eligible to use the resource per our licensing agreements.

Our resource authentication is handled via OpenAthens, which registers Butler as an affiliated institution, and routes you to the standard Auth0 login screen and then back to your resource. OpenAthens should also remember your login across different sites in browser tabs.

We do not recommend you bookmark pages you reach after signing in. Instead, use the links found on the Butler Libraries Databases pages, or go directly to a publisher platform (by searching or bookmarking) and sign in using their "Find My Institution/Organization" options. Since most database or publisher platforms offer a permalink or URL share option, we recommend using these as they should already include the proper information for routing you back through authentication in a future session.

OpenAthens replaced EZproxy in August 2023, and if you still have old EZproxy links to update, further information can be found here.

Butler's VPN is not required for accessing library resources off campus, nor should the use of a VPN interfere with OpenAthens for library authentication.
