The Wacom Tablet is a piece of technology that can be used to create drawings, notes, and figures while virtually simulating a pencil/pen stroke.  A popular way to utilize this technology is through creating voice-over videos with diagrams such as those created by Khan Academy.

So how would one go about creating a video such as this?  At Butler the best choice for using a Screen Capture program would be Panopto.  This service is already paid for and most professors have experience using this technology.

As far as the drawing software to use, the best free options are SmoothDraw4 or Microsoft Paint.

  • To download SmoothDraw4 for free click the link and you will be redirected to their website.
  • On the right hand side underneath the title "Downloads" select the 'Download Installer' for Version 4.0.5
  • This program runs very similar to Microsoft Paint yet has more pen/pencil interface options.

Once you have the preferred drawing software up and running open the Panopto video recorder.

While creating a video in Panopto select "Screen Capture" as the video source.  You will now be able to record a video speaking while simultaneously drawing figures.
